Accelerater spring bracket.

Post by chevpol » Mon May 09, 2022 1:14 am

Quick question folks,

The accelerator spring bracket that bolts between the carburettor and the inlet manifold, which side of the gasket does it sit? Between the carburettor and the gasket, or between the gasket and the manifold?

I really need the manual!! Lol

If you are talking about the arm about one half inch wide and 4 inchs long (13mm x 100mm) that holds the throttle return spring then that goes on top of the carburetor mounting lug under the nut that holds the bottom of the carb. If you have been putting it under the carb base next to the manifold then you have just found your whole problem!!!!!! There should be nothing between the carburetor and the manifold but the gasket. Now you REALLY need a new gasket!

You can make a temporary gasket from about any piece of cardboard like a cereal box. I did that once at a race track between rounds when I had to work on the carb and tore the gasket. I grabbed a box for something out of the trash can and cut out a gasket real quick just to get me through the next round. Well, won the next round and it ran so good I left it alone. Won the class that night and I completely forgot that "Temporary" gasket until several years later when the carb came off again and there it was with the printing of whatever that box was staring at me. I would not recommend leaving one in that long but box gaskets have worked for many years, especially with a very thin layer of gasket sealer. One thing you will need to do is check the base of the carb to make sure it is flat and not warped from clamping down on the bracket. Probably not since the bracket was directly under the bolt. If it is then carefully file it flat with as fine file. Very lightly and slowly.
