Dart fuel pump

Post by ldj1002 » Sat May 07, 2022 12:22 pm

Will the Dart fuel pump lift fuel from tank? IE fuel can't gravity flow to the pump because fuel exits tank from top.

If you are talking about the replacement mechanical pump on the engine then yes it will. Most tanks have a higher lift than the 151 considering you are sitting on that tank and most cars have the tank all the way in the back under the car.

Sorry but I have to profess ignorance here. Are you talking about a Dodge Dart fuel pump being used in an M151? If so, does the year make a difference and how would you fit it into the tank?

are you talking a in tank fuel pump? if so all make about 70 to 110psi so they only way to use if you have a fuel bypass regulator, which requires a return line. i don't recommend. get a 3 or 4 psi fuel pump

1960's-1970's Dodge dart slant six fuel pump will bolt on to the block in place of the stock pump. I have never done this myself so I cannot speak for the alignment of the foot to the cam but I have been told it works.
Parker, All in tank pumps do NOT make 70-110 lbs. of pressure! Just as an example the stock in tank pump for a Chevy P30 chassis from the late 80's puts out 15-20 lbs. max. The stock electric pump for the M-151 puts out around 4 lbs.

Thanks Rick. It would have been more clear if the original post said which 151 variant he was referring to. I kept wondering how you'd get the pump into the tank like the A1 has rather than the block mounted pump. There seem to be several in tank pumps on the market but I don't remember seeing any posts of them being installed in 151s.

Even older than throttle body, the old P30's were 454 with Rochestor Quadrajet carbs. But even more modern Dodge Cummins diesels went to in tank pumps in 99 and only put out 15-20 lbs.
