Re: oil filter and engine oil M151A1
All of the M151 engines used the same filter which by the way is the same filter as most 1960's through 1980's Ford cars and trucks. Anything that crosses over to a Motorcraft FL-1A. As far as oil, The best oil to use in the older flat tappet engines is a diesel motor oil because it still has the additives to lubricate the tappets. These have been removed from standard car oils since all cars nowadays have roller cams and lifters. It reduces emissions and saves catalytic converters. I know you are in France so things my be different there.

15W-40 is what the military went to once they moved over to all diesel equipment. So they were already using the diesel rated oil in these. I use 15W-40 in all of my vehicles except my newer Mustang and the wife's 2016 Toyota. I even use it in my small engines like my mowers.

30 weight was what was specified prior to military
using 15w 40.
I just wonder if it makes any real difference since these vehicles typically are not used that much?

Any equivalent to a Ford FL-1A oil filter should be good. I've generally used Ford, Fram, or Motorcraft and not had problems. Baldwin also has a comparable filter. Here's the list I have:
a) WIX 51515
b) Purolator L3001
c) FL-1A
d) FRAM PH8A
e) NAPA 1515
Regarding engine oil, as was previously stated, years ago gas engine oils were modified to eliminate certain additives to protect the catalytic converter on newer cars. i think it was the zinc that was taken out. I have an older motorhome with a Chevy 454 that needed the old-style oil. For years I used Chevron DELO 400 until that oil was discontinued. I now use Shell Rotella T4 as it has the same additives as the DELO 400. Rotella T4 only comes in 15-40 but that never bothered me, the motorhome, or the A2.

Re: oil filter and engine oil M151A1
Years ago, in the early 80s, we used 30 weight ND oil in our tractors and on most of our trucks. Even on my first M151A1. Now, I have an A2, and it needs an oil change.
On reading about the oil in this thread, I went out to buy Diesel motor oil. Talk about Hens Teeth, I can find only one store, and all they had were 1 quart in the whole store.
So, I bought it.
Ford Motorcraft, SAE 15W-40, Diesel motor oil.
Meets Ford WSS-M2C171-F1
Will this work or is there a better oil to get ?
Thank you

It will work just fine but I will bet you paid a premium for that oil!!!! I prefer Rotella 15W-40 but there seems to be a shortage of it lately. Any of the major brand name 15W-40 diesel oils will work just fine. They are all formulated the same.
