Is he trying to take the trans off the bell housing or the bell housing and trans off the engine? You HAVE to take the transmission off of the bell housing FIRST! Then take the bell housing off of the engine.

It is not unusual for the clutch disc to have frozen to the spline after sitting unused for a while.
It my need a little persuasio.

You have to take the four bolts out of the transmission from the bell housing and remove the transmission from the bell housing. THEN, you can remove the bell housing from the engine. You can't take the transmission and bell housing out as one piece, at least you can't without a real good chance of breaking something. If the transmission splines are rusty you will have to go up through the inspection plate and spry everything very well with PB blaster, Kroil, WD40. Plan on needing a new clutch plate at that point.

Hope yours isn't as tough as mine, it was stuck in the throwout bearing and wasn't coming out with any kind of penetrant. I was able to get the bellhousing off with the tranny BUT it was a difficult task, a lot of easy prying, flywheel hangs on the housing, so it can be done but not advised.

That is my point, In Hambones case it is obvious that he was not going to be able to free up that transmission any other way but keep in mind that by trying to clear that flywheel with the lip on the bell housing you are putting one hell of a bend in the input shaft of the transmission. Like I said, it can be done but chances of breaking something are high.
