I just rechecked a2 wiring diagram and you are correct with composit rear light assy with 4 bulbs in it. And add front 3 bulb composit light in but where to install ?Remove B/O front light ? Thank you.

You do not need to use the new lights, just have to use the matching wire harness front and back. You may have to get A1 tail lights. I am tired and going to bed now but three wires sounds right for the A1 light, Tail light, brake light and blackout. That means that the right side tail light may have already been changed. I have a Dr. appointment tomorrow morning so I will look at a couple lights I have tomorrow afternoon and that way I can give you better info. But if you still have the original rear harness I cannot believe a 60 year old harness is usable.

Hello sawlk and welcome back, we thought we had lost you..... glad to hear that you are feeling better.

Here are two pictures of tail-lights. They show the left-hand and right-hand rear tail-light units that were fitted to the M38 and M38A1. These were also used on the early M151 and as Rick said, the introduction of the M151A1 also changed the rear light setup. The early RH-light was dropped and was replaced with another LH-unit.....plus a small blackout stop-light placed on a bracket above the new RH-unit.

If you intend to use the existing early M151 rear harness, you will need to adapt the harness to provide wiring across to the RH-unit and swap the blackout-stop light wire up to the now-separate BO Stop unit on the bracket.

Anyway, here are the pictures, originally posted by M38-series guru, Wes Knettle.

Here's the newly-located BO Stop light unit. If you want to keep the vehicle as original as possible, then use light units as shown in Wes' pictures. If you want safety and functionality, go with the M151A1 setup.
