Shifter plug

Wondering where shifter plug is located. I think it may be the one next to lower drain plug, is that correct?

Shifter plug? Are you talking about the reverse fork shaft? The plug you are NOT supposed to take out? If that is the one then it is a couple inches above the transmission oil fill. On all but the early transmissions it has a different type of plug and the standard plug wrench does not fit it.

No not the one by the fill plug. The one on the bottom by the drain plug. I understand that the shifter plug has a spring and a ball behind it. Someone recommended checking it for sludge.

There is nothing in the bottom of the transmission that moves on a detent. The only thing I can think they are talking about is the transfer shifter and access to that is through the plate on the lower side. If you have sludge in a transmission then you have serious issues that are not going to be solved by local cleaning. Any sludge would come out the two drains on the bottom.
