NSN for Fire Extinguisher Bracket

Post by Crux444 » Thu Apr 01, 2021 7:50 am

Can anyone advise of the NSN for the fire extinguisher bracket that was mounted on the front left fender of some M151A2s? Also, where to get one?

Crux.....

I'm guessing that this is the type you are talking about.

If so, the details are:-
Bracket. Fire Extinguisher mount. NSN 4210-440-3222 p/n 10924916.

The extinguisher itself is NSN 4210-555-8837, manufactured by Metalcraft.

If this isn't the one you mean, then you need to post a photo of the extinguisher you have.

Thanks, Ken.

I don’t have the extinguisher, but my MUTT has mounting holes in the left fender which I think may be for an extinguisher bracket. Is it possible to see the bracket without the extinguisher on it to see if the hole paytern is the same?

I may be wrong in what the holes are for. Mine is a Canadian M151A2, so maybe there was something else mounted there?

Anyone know?

Hello Crux.... the M151 variant that had the extinguisher mounted on the fender was the M151A1C and its later version, the M825. Those were recoilless rifle carriers. If I remember correctly, the 1974 purchase of M151A2 vehicles by the CDF were plain A2s, not the variants.

However, the CDF added big rear view mirrors to their purchases for safety reasons, and the mounting arms were attached to the fenders. That's what those holes are for, I reckon. If you check out CDF modification C-30-105000/CF-016 -Rear View Mirrors, you will find your answer there.
Hope this helps.
ps... I'd love to see a picture or three of your mutt.

Ken, that’s bloody brilliant! That is the exact position of the holes on the fender, so big rear-view mirror it must be. Now, I guess the next question is, would anyone have an ip close view of the brackets and mounting arms for the mirror?

As for the mirror itself, it looks like the standard rectangular rearview mirror on the windshield in later MUTTS (which just arrived for that purpose from Armyjeepparts.com!) but now I’m thinking it should go on the fender!

I appreciate the info and the photo - a) it leaves little doubt the MUTT isn’t a genuine CF machine, and b) there’s some good info there on application locations for tactical markings. Given that I joined the CF just after the intro of the Iltis (crap...) all of the MUTTs and M38A1 CDNs had been phased out, I’d never seen one in service. MUTTs were only used by the “Army of the West” in Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia; and on the east coast at CFB Gagetown New Brunswick. Only the Canadian Airborne Regiment used then in Ontario when they transferred from CFB Edmonton to CFB Petawawa in 1977.

I just looked on the A2, it had 4 holes on driver side fender, of which 2 are smaller.I always wondered what they were for.I don't see how it would be much use maybe see cars alongside of you.Makes more sense to have alongside windshield , maybe this was before it got moved to windshield?

Hello again Crux.....
I'm happy to hear that the holes were for the mirror arms. I have a better photo of the arms setup as well as a few more pics with camouflage details and other markings which may be of interest.

If you email me directly, I can send these details to you much easier and quicker than having to upload everything to a photo-hosting site. My e-address is as below.
