problem with lights

Post by 67N20 » Mon Feb 22, 2021 4:04 pm

Good evening everyone
I'm trying to get an old 151 operational for a friend, this is a cut mutt :( Problem is no turn signals, no brake lights, no tail lights, I do have headlights high and low beam and dash lights. This has an old style relay box under dash, close to where the turn signal flasher goes metal box with ten wires attached to it on the exterior using two sets of screw on wire connections. bus is about the size of a old cigar box. inside is three relays, and black rectangle about 4 inches long appears to be a snap in. Flasher unit ?? anyway I think I should modernize what else can I use. or does someone have one of these boxes? I don't want to put a lot of money into this. Looks like this mutt was put together on a budget but quality of workmanship not bad.

I remember on the light switch the contacts corrode so to correct that you run the light switch position lever back and forth thru the lever positions to clean them.
Maybe this would work for the tail lights?

You say it was cut, have you checked the rear harness for continuity? They did not take the wires out when they cut them.

I just checked lights that where inoperative by jumping each wire individually with the batteries, they all work. :) I ordered a 24 volt flasher from NAPA, I plan on replacing that black rectangle flasher. see what happens. I know it won't fit in the mounted box. By the way all wires going in or out of box have a letter instead of a number which makes things even harder. :(

You can get a more modern military electronic unit but you will need a different harness to go to the switch on the column.

Well I decided to go with the new electronic unit and turn signal controller. turns out my brake light switch doesn't work so I have another one of those on the way also. I did get it running the other day, it runs strong and starts easy.

On a M151 tail light, I know the bottom bulb is blackout, but what are the other two? one is larger than the other.

One is the tail light and the other is the brake light/turn signal.
