That box with the terminal strips is part of a mwo kit to add tun signals to an M series vehicle not originally equipped with them. There is a specific hand controller that goes with those boxes. The black rectangular thing with the rounded ends is indeed the flasher.
in the light housing, the single small bulb in the bottom is the blackout marker bulb. in the upper half, the small bulb is the tail light bulb. The big bulb does double duty, brakes and turn indication. The relays in that box do the necessary switching to accomplish that. Modern military turn signal hand controller do all this internally, no box needed..
