Re: hood serial number help needed.
yeah, he said it isn't the original plate. If its a later A2, then at least i know it wont need the stencils on the hood.
Im amusing this spring isn't original either? Thats the brake pedal its attached too.

Nice clean looking A2!
The idea that it is a 1977 probably makes sense.
I have a 79 contract vehicle with matching serial number stenciled on dash and painted over.
It agrees with the data plate on dash. The body number was in the 21,000s and Ken confirmed that it was from the later contract.
If it is registered let it go with the body number
Had a Jeep with the second spring that was covering up a brake problem.
A new master cylinder fixed that problem.
Good luck fixing that!

Re: hood serial number help needed.
thanks. don't worry this will get fixed. so far Ive had rear shocks that had been cut, re welded with a piece if rod, with a nut on the end, and oversized washer to allow the wrong sized bolt to hold them in place. Ive also had engine core plugs that had rotted, but instead of fitting new ones, he had just put filler and mastic over them. Also the steering wheel had been glued back on after a botched attempt to remove it. Plus the bottom radiator hose had been cut in half, and a Tee piece put in, in some weird way to re-route the cooling. Then there were all the wiring faults and blocked rad. how this thing ran i have no idea.

Re: hood serial number help needed.
I'm in the UK at a place called Ipswich. When I bought the MUTT, I didn't expect it to be 'problem free,' but, I didn't want a project, unfortunately although it looked good, under the surface, there was a whole heap of problems, and I ended up with a project. I bought it back in 2015 and I only now am i onto the aesthetics. And as I found out yesterday with that spring, where's still some bodges to find. But, We'll get there.

If the body is sound you are ahead of the game.
The other things are fixable.
Have seen vehicle that were a lot worse.
Electrical problems are pretty straight forward.kk
Even-a harness changeout is easy enough to do.
The master cylinder is another story.
It will test your patience.
You may even use words that aren’t too nice!
Have fun with the Mutt!

Re: hood serial number help needed.
It looks like that pedal assembly is not the original one considering the paint colors, I am wondering if the master cylinder was not already changed? But considering what you have mentioned already I will bet it was not changed with anything remotely usable! Some of those "fixes" are even bad by what I have seen over time! Filler over rotted freeze plugs is a good one! You are in Ken's neighborhood, I am surprised he has not popped in for tea yet.
