Yes, Graf and Hohenfels are 2 locations, but they both (and Vilseck, too) are part of the Grafenwoehr military community and we use both training areas.

You are correct, it was you and I that had this conversation before. Amazing how all the information is EXACTLY the same right down to the wording.IMFMOTORPOOL wrote:Ditto that! and 76 and later contracts have the tunnel tag. I believe the 71 CONTRACT numbers on the spare tire carrier were sequence numbers and not used by the military for serials. The tunnel tag numbers were used for serials. Interestingly the 71 contract serials are A151-XXXXX in the data base and on the tunnel tags they start with B151-XXXXX (76 CONTRACT) C-151-XXXXX (77 CONTRACT) ETC.stb wrote:Re: M151 Serial number / Data of Delivery help needed
Rick: You say that ''The number on the spare tire carrier has never proven out.'' It depends on what You consider proof: I have personally seen these numbers on many trucks, even on a M151A2 owned by the U.S.Army center for military history. What all these trucks had in common, was that they all were 71 contract vehicles. On each and every 71 contract A2 i scraped the paint off the spare wheel carrier, the body number was there, and none had the transmission tunnel tag.
Rule of thumb is: If it has the depressions for the front turn signals pressed directly into the fenders, and also has the front footwell side drains, it is a 71 contract AMG.
If the depressions are welded in, it is a 76, 77, or 79 contract AMG.
On the other hand, your statement ''Many, many A2's have been checked and no number found.'' is also true.
None of the 76, 77, and 79 contract trucks i have seen had the spare tire carrier number. Instead, they all had the transmission tunnel tag.
''All AMG A2's have the tunnel tag, that is if it has not been removed by blasting or rust.''
I can't think of the tag rusting away or beeing blasted off without the body suffering major damage in that area. What has often been described as a ''foil tag'' is actually a piece of 14 or 16 ga sheet metal attached with 2 spotwelds.
I own a total of five M151 series trucks. One is a AMG ''Barstow mutt'', 71 contract, non emission, and totally untouched. It has the spare tire carrier number, and absolutely no trace of ever having had a transmission tunnel tag.
Another one is a 71 contract AMG M825. This one has no spare tire carrier in the rear, but i found the body number stamped in the right bumperette area, after removing the ammo rack structure. The number was stamped in the same style and size as it would on the spare tire carrier.
The rest are 77 and 79 contracts. These do have the transmission tunnel tag.
I will post pictures once somebody tells me how to do it.
And no, I am not him.

Rick: I got a photbucket account today, and uploaded 3 pictures
Imfmotorpool: I did some research, and i was wrong on the B151- serial . It's the C151 serial sequence that must have started new with C151-00001.
The B151 serial seems to be a continued A151 sequence.
Highest A151 serial on my list is 48513, lowest B151 is 60059 (the list is incomplete).

I noticed in this photo the outside bolt for the spare on mine is welded on top verse this welded on the side, did it matter or was that based on production?stb wrote:Rick: I got a photbucket account today, and uploaded 3 pictures

That's what I have as well, earliest confirmation is NB0JM9 C151 00004 by Logsa, 1977.
I have NB0F57 A151 48556 as the highest confirmed A151. Logsa 19 70
The lowest confirmed B151 I have is NB0GJN B151 60057. Logsa 1976.
The Canadian issued A151's fall in the 43000 thru 462xx's.
My list is incomplete as well.

Re: M151 Serial number / Data of Delivery help needed
I would like anything that can be found or point me in the direction of where to find anything or history of my new acquisition
Here is what I have:
ORD #:8754459
BUDD S/N #:24143
Reg #: 2M 5335
DOM: 5-66
I know data plates are easily replaced but mine is so faded that I was able to get the DOM and Reg # and it reads M151A1 and has all features as the M151A1 would have i.e. fender lights and right rear B/O
Any information is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance Today I was removing all the civilian items lights on front and rear and bumper. I need to upload current pictures as I progress.

Re: M151 Serial number / Data of Delivery help needed
Hi guys,
I am new member here and I would like to ask for some help regarding contract number and producer of my M151A1.
As a owner of WW2 Willys MB I always wanted to have a 1/4 ton truck linked to Vietnam war. This week I bought my MUTT which served in Danish army. I am happy that I found uncut car, which of course demands some work but is in one piece.
I have Danish decommission certificate with year of manufacture 1968 and chassis number 02F 273 68, but there is no information regarding contract number. Unfortunately a data plate is missing. I have new original blank data plate proper for my M151A1 and I want to put correct data on it. I will be grateful for any help with this matter.
One more question: is there any difference between Army and USMC data plates?
Thanks in advance.
Robert

Robert, You can contact Ken the Muttguru in England with that info and he can probably help you out. He may already have the info in his database since most mutt owners over there registered there info with him. His e-mail is muttguru@aol.com.
