Parts Interchangeability - Ford Pinto

Post by muttguru » Mon Sep 26, 2022 12:19 pm

Hello folks,
I'm trying to help an A2 owner overseas who wants to know if a Ford Pinto has similar (or same) parts as an M151-series. He's asking about the radiator and fuel pump.....does anyone have a picture or two of the radiator and the pump, especially a view of the inlet and outlet on the rad.

Any help much appreciated.
Thanks, ken

I replaced my A2 fuel pump with a commonly available one but it wasn’t from a Pinto. For the life of me I can’t remember what it was from. Have you looked at the cross reference list? I’ll try and find my old posts.

I think the part # for the fuel pump is 60577, available from most auto part supplier.

Ken:
Below is an online photo of a 73 Pinto radiator. Not certain about size dimensions in comparison.
States:
19.75 x 16 x 2"
Seen at Redline360.com

Wasn't the fuel pump from a 66 Falcon the same? Can't recall, it may have been a Dodge dart.

The Omix radiator is Not a 151 radiator.
Incorrect location for lower outlet.

Will, If you go over to the 838 Ken posted the same question over there and one of the guys showed pics of Pintos with radiators in them and the inlet is in the right spot. I seem to remember they were really thin radiators though since they only had to cool a small 4 banger running on the street. And they had to do it on Fords tight budget at that time!

Hi Rick and Hambone, along with Itsimp and Will W and not forgetting Fil B,

many thanks for the comments and advice.

The "overseas" owner lives in Israel and he has a rough-ish M151A2. As very few of these vehicles ended up in civvie hands, it's almost impossible to find parts for them and he wants to restore what he has to something resembling how it used to look !

I had heard that the Pinto used a radiator that looked very muvh like the M151 rad....... there were also some comments on the G503 board too....and of course Big George in Holland also wrote to me with extra advice.

I've sent the comments to the owner of the A2 so it's now up to him to try whatever may work. I'll let you know how things go.

Kind regards

Ken
