51 M38
I brought this home Thursday. It has been on a ranch for 40 years in south Texas. It runs well but doesn't stop. It has always been stored under roof in a machine shed so the body, floor and hat channels have no rust.
And this is my 1970 DJ5 that the PO told me came from an installation in GA. It can shine but the shine doesn't last. The paint is on it's last legs.

Hello,
Wow !!!!
What a beautiful rust free Jeep !!!
Congratulations on a wonderful find right there, it is beautiful, and has the original
windshield and tailgate.
Any missing items are available to get her right back together
WeeBee webbing makes great canvas tops, here in the USA.
If you find a top bow, unless you have it with the jeep ,
see if the seller can ship it via Greyhound Bus Lines Freight service.
You will save a pile of money in shipping !
I shipped a set for my 53 M38A1 and it was $47 station to station.
Please post more pictures when you can, not many M38's get posted here !
Keep her under cover and out of the elements !!
Best Regards,
Ray

Thanks Ray. My neighbor stopped by today and was excited. He had a 50 CJ3A way back when and found it amazing that this one is fairly complete. It sure does have a lot of holes. LOL70th Division wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2020 10:25 amHello,

Re: 51 M38
Careful, man! Once, I was on eBay "just killing time" and I ended up with a half track. Like...for REAL!
Anyway, it appears you have a very good starting point....better than mine!
Cheers,
TJ

Nice M38. Make sure to clean up those plates and do not use sandpaper. The patent plate, even though it has a hole in it, make sure to take care of that. I see your M38 has those reinforcements welded to the top rear corners. Leave those there when you restore. That was a military directive to weld those in place. Get a copy of Ryan Millers M38 book. Again, nice M38, John

Nice find! Don't worry about "all those holes". Most of what I can see on it belong there.

Re: 51 M38
The brakes are done (almost) along with a rebuild of the steering box, drag link and tie rod end replacement. I straightened the driver fender while it was off and it turned out better than I thought it would. I put the original seat frames in and installed new seat pads. Wiring and gauges are all new. It's not a restoral but at least it is getting around better than when I bought it. I am still on the lookout for wheels. In the mean time I painted the ones it came with and put one new and two decent used tires on it.
My Grandson found using a rachet was fun.
Now on to a leaky water pump and a few other things.

Different Wheels
Changed the bumper to a CJ bumper. Hey...it was free and better than the angle iron I removed.
Then on to serious work. Working on repairing a crack in the front cross member. The fins on the radiator were clogged with grass and mud - quite a bit - so that is getting a clean up. The blockage on the outside of the radiator caused overheating and a blown head gasket so I'm working on that as well. While this is all apart I'm going to install the missing oil filter/lines/bracket as well as changing from the old MOPAR alternator to a GM 10 or 12SI. I have a NOS bell crank coming which will complete the steering rebuild. Some painting and cleanup will be done. A little project creep but it's easier while at this stage than going back in later.

that's a nice find! It's amazing how old vehicles in this state just don't waste away like in other places.

The BEST part of your project is getting your Grandson involved. Those are gifts that last a lifetime.

Nice M38 Ojgrsoi! I’m looking for one similar.
Side question, what size Uhaul auto trailer did you use there?
I’m over in Aledo, and if I get serious, I’m gonna be bothering you for advice on restoration!

Re: 51 M38
NICE! Indeed rust free. From a ranch? Mine was... 30+ years chasing coyotes & herding sheep/cattle.
Took a few years to get it rebuilt/restored but I love it. Like the kids piucture, my three sons grew up working on & riding my M38.
Did some major league "Baja-ing" this summer with a bunch of CanAm 2021 4x4 hot rods/space craft in the Bighorn Mts in WY
& my old dog kept up galantly through the worst of it.
My 2x jeeps are Airborne, like myself, no windshields unless the better half is TCing [passenger]
