I sold it to a guy in Oklahoma I think. I wish I had it back. I don’t know what happened to it. Hopefully in a good place.

It certainly was a great looking, all original survivor jeep.
Very unique with her service record binder still with the jeep.
I hope she is restored or preserved, not "modified" into a rock climber jeep and painted red !
I like what they do, but not with historical military jeeps in good shape !!
Plenty of civilian jeeps to do that with
This model jeep is still an affordable option for many entering the Jeep World, fairly plentiful, and seemingly overlooked in the Military Jeep Restoration World by many.
I am very glad to have mine, and they seem to be very comfortable and have extra leg room
She is in good company with my WW2 Jeeps
I have to be careful and not be tempted into another one for the collection
But I see them out there, what to do ....

Here she is arriving in Florida , the trucker did a perfect job !!
He commented that he was very pleased that not 1 drip of oil dripped on the BMW below Isn't she beautiful in the early morning
Here she is unloaded
With her new home, The Jeep Barn, in the background, which was a great fun project building !!
She is parked now where all that Rock Wool insulation can be seen inside the door.
The jeep barn is 100 percent insulated, walls, ceilings, and with fully equipped beer loft accommodations
This is America
Well....a wine and cheese loft too
I will make a post on the total rebuilding of the almost fallen down , 1937 built barn, one of these days.

The Jeep's original name is Flash
Uncovered on the passenger side, still covered on the driver's side but will be uncovered when I get to the clean up and markings touch up.
That makes 2 originally named Jeeps that I have, the other is Red-Rose, a 1942 GPW.

Hello,
Ok I just received my brass "beer keg" sending unit float drum.
I clipped in in the C shaped clip on the bottom in the direction it should be.
I am very pleased with how this float looks and fits.
Perfect
Just like the original float, not cork, not plastic, brass !
I am happy to have this unit restored and ready for many years of future service !!!

Hello,
I decided to have the original YS carburetor and fuel pump-vacuum pump assembly professionally rebuilt
by a fellow G member, Scout Pilot.
I saw Ozzie's you tube video of what was done with a pile of parts, ending with a beautiful like new jeep carb !
I removed both items and bubble wrapped them, and packed them in a wooden ammo crate, to protect them during "round trip" shipping.
I also decided to include the original carbs from my 42 Gpw, 43 Gpw, as well as, my 44 French MB carb.
These carbs are intricate items, and are best rebuilt and tested, by a Master Craftsman like Scout Pilot !!
This way my M38A1 should start right up, with a fresh carb and fuel pump-vaccum pump rebuild, a rebuilt fuel tank, I am doing, and fuel system
Here are some pictures of the units being readied to be shipped off to North Carolina. Here are some pics of the AC Fuel Pump-Vacuum pump unit assembly, the vacuum pump is on the bottom end: The fuel/vacuum pump, along with the carburetor, are sophisticated systems, and I am so happy that Scout Pilot will be rebuilding all of these, and I will send him more as I get to those other jeep projects.
Your jeep will run perfectly, as it should, with a correctly rebuilt, and re-machined if needed,original carburetor !!

Fuel Pump longevity tip, Do not use the hand primer lever for routine every day starting, it is not necessary and at some point in time the lever will separate from the rocker arm shaft.

The carb and fuel pump unit is at Scout Pilot's location for overhaul
I am working on the gas tank repair, I have to get it blasted, and repaired.
The Pine Sol has worked great and I will be using more for a final cleaning.
I was planning to solder the 2 pin hole leaks, but may use JB weld instead.
Do you have any advice regarding which method to use ?
I hope to get that tank worked on this weekend, and get it primed and painted as well.

On 60+ years of M-38A1 servicing/operation plus all other 40's-60's wheeled MV's I have not used the hand primer more than a few times. If the connections are tight, the fuel will arrive at the carburetor real quick like. I have had a lot of practice, tho. The vehicles that have the AC T-2 Fuel filter such as G-506, G-508 and G-744 (5 Ton Gasser) may require a wee bit more time.

Scout Pilot the Great Master Carb Craftsman and Great Vietnam War Veteran
Well here is what they look like now, and done pretty quickly !!
They are amazing and beautiful.

Once the carb and fuel pump are installed, and new radiator hoses, and other rubber hoses, she should be ready to turn over !!
I also was wondering if anyone knows a supplier that makes the original 1953 style web straps for this jeep.
It has the WW2 style horse shoe or C clip style end clips on all the original but deteriorated straps for the shovel under the hood and the axe and top bow straps.
I have seen newly made ones available but they are not correct for this August, 1953 Willys .
The ones on this jeep are all broken or rotted away, and need replacing.
Here is the one for the shovel strapped to the underside of the hood : Here is the one used for the axe and top bows : I want to replace them and stay authentic to what came on this jeep.

Here is another question for those who have the knowledge on the M38A1.
This mirror is on the jeep, it looks as old as the jeep.
Is this the correct original mirror that came on this Jeep from the Willys Factory in August of 1953 ?
I have seen many mirrors for sale listed as M38A1 mirrors, but I have not seen one like this.
This mirror has 3 "ridges" or "steps" on the reverse side as seen in the pictures .
It also has 3 Phillips Head screws.
The mirror is 5 inches wide . If anyone knows if this is the original style, does anyone have one available, or know where I can get one ?

Did you ever hear of TM9-8014, Figure 175, or ORD 9 SNL G-758 Figures 1 thru 4 and TM9-8015-2, Figure 158?

Be careful when buying supposedly GI Issue JEEP Mirrors, the OEM 5"for M-151 has an offset mounting stud. Offshore may have those combination Slotted/Phillips adjusting screws.
