51 M38

Post by ojgrsoi » Sat Feb 15, 2020 6:42 am

I brought this home Thursday. It has been on a ranch for 40 years in south Texas. It runs well but doesn't stop. It has always been stored under roof in a machine shed so the body, floor and hat channels have no rust.

And this is my 1970 DJ5 that the PO told me came from an installation in GA. It can shine but the shine doesn't last. The paint is on it's last legs.

Hello,

Wow !!!!
What a beautiful rust free Jeep !!!
Congratulations on a wonderful find right there, it is beautiful, and has the original
windshield and tailgate.

Any missing items are available to get her right back together :D :D :D
WeeBee webbing makes great canvas tops, here in the USA.

If you find a top bow, unless you have it with the jeep ,
see if the seller can ship it via Greyhound Bus Lines Freight service.
You will save a pile of money in shipping !
I shipped a set for my 53 M38A1 and it was $47 station to station.

Please post more pictures when you can, not many M38's get posted here !

Keep her under cover and out of the elements !!

Best Regards,
Ray

Thanks Ray. My neighbor stopped by today and was excited. He had a 50 CJ3A way back when and found it amazing that this one is fairly complete. It sure does have a lot of holes. LOL

Careful, man! Once, I was on eBay "just killing time" and I ended up with a half track. Like...for REAL!

Anyway, it appears you have a very good starting point....better than mine!

Cheers,
TJ

Nice M38. Make sure to clean up those plates and do not use sandpaper. The patent plate, even though it has a hole in it, make sure to take care of that. I see your M38 has those reinforcements welded to the top rear corners. Leave those there when you restore. That was a military directive to weld those in place. Get a copy of Ryan Millers M38 book. Again, nice M38, John

Nice find! Don't worry about "all those holes". Most of what I can see on it belong there.
