What type of aircraft is this?
My father was an officer in the Merchant Marine and made many trips hauling supplies to war zones in WW2. Sunk by the U-162 in the Caribbean in August 1942 but survived.
Pictures we found in the family archives show aircraft as deck cargo on at least one of his journeys. The aircraft have roundel insignia so I assume they were for the RAF. The notes on the back indicate they were taken in India, but except for pre-war voyages, my father did not sail to India after we declared war. He did make voyages to Egypt and hauled German and Italian POW's on the return trips to the US.
So, wondering what aircraft we were providing the British early in WW2?

I don't think that is a beaufighter, my first thoughs was it's a Bristol Beaufort, but the engine nacelles don't look right.

On further investigation I think its a Boston, that's the British name given to the Douglas Havoc.

It does look more Boston than Beaufighter. I agree with you.

Re: What type of aircraft is this?
Revenge was pretty quick for the U-162.
She sank the WEST CELINA on 8/14, the MOENA on 8/24, the THELMA on 8/26 and the STAR OF OREGON on 8/30.
Four days later near Trinidad, she was sunk by three British Destroyers with the loss of two crew but forty-nine sailors were picked up and sent to the US for internment.
Which ship was your father's?

Re: What type of aircraft is this?
To all of you, Thanks So Much!
Every piece of information in my father's story is invaluable to me. He's been gone since 1956, a casualty of WWII but many years after it ended.
I always assumed it was a US produced aircraft since the this voyage had begun in the US in 1941 and did not stop in the UK.
