MY JIMMY IS PUSHING 75

My 1941 "Jimmy" aka GMC 6X6 U.S.A. W-454317 will be 75 in May. It is the pride and joy of my collection and if only she could talk.....
She always enjoys a parade and being surrounded WWII/Korean Veterans and their stories, and is lucky to be handy to a WWII era Army Air Field for a sunny Sunday trip down memory lane.
Gone are the days of Army Motorpools and Army Parts businesses of the 40's-60's full of WWI and Korean War veterans buying parts and sharing Army experience and stories with their "Jimmys".

There is nothing like a stop at it's favorite Tim Hortons and having 3 or 4 future "Miss Americas" rush to the window to say "HI" to Joe and his MV's. And remind Joe that his bagel was "toasted with Love".

There's nothing better than a repeat performance with my faithful CCKW companion, Tim Horton's is always a joy for both me and the 41 CCKW while on the way to enjoy a plain bagel and a cup of coffee by old Hangar #1.
Dow was active today, several F-18's and an accompanying KDC-10 Omega Tanker taking off for parts unknown. Omega is a civilian contract in flight refueling service.

#75 it is and a lot of fun to drive in parades, most onlookers do not realize it is a 1940's WWII Army Truck. Am guessing that the transfer whine and signature GMC 270 exhaust sound gets instant recognition of WWII and Korean era Vets.

She's now 78 years old and the CCKW warming up in my drive on the way to the Tim Hortens ritual is again a reality. When parked at Dow Field Hangar 1 it sometimes draws nearly as much attention as the transcient military aircraft.
The MARS Site at DOW had a K-52 CCKW Radio Van that drove past our business a couple times a week from the 50's thru 1960.
My friend Don was stationed here (25 miles from his home town) and drove it for a couple years before being transfered to Wheelus.
Don passed away a year ago.

What is the DOD on your CCKW ? Did the Military ever piggyback any jeeps using CCKW’s ? Is so, that would be a great photo to see.
