M151s photos from current deployed location - Updated 29 JAN

Post by TransCorps » Wed Nov 21, 2012 8:01 am

Hi G838 guys, my interest is usually in G503s and G740s but recently I saw these M151s lined up in the bone yard on the base where I work and I had to stop and take some photos. These shots are not the best, but i will try to get into the yard and get some better photos of the bunch. These M151A2s (I think) all look to be in good shape. Most have flat tires and all but one has the canvas removed, but besides that they still look to be in good shape. There is also some other old US equipment in the yard I'll try to get photos of.

Thanks for the pictures, They are M718A1's. They are the Ambulance version of the A2. And in darn good shape too. That is probably the largest concentration of 718's in good shape on the planet! Judging from the terrain I can guess where you might be ( do not tell us, OPSEC rules!) and I find it interesting they are there. Stay safe.

Paul,
this is what heaven looks like.... row upon row of M825s !

Thanks for posting these. If you get the opportunity to take more photos, see if you can get one or two shots of the dash dataplates. It would be useful to know what Contract they were built under. But don't take any risks !

Ken, Why do you say 825's? The 825 does not have the body extension, only the 718 has that.

the one nearest the right side of the first pic looks like an A2 from here. lots of ambulances, i wonder how many still have the small box mounted on the right rear floor, that's the hard one to find.

It was SO wrong I figured maybe you knew something I didn't. But don't worry, I won't say anything about the fact that Ken was wrong!

OK, so will they be for sale? I'll bet if they were there would be enough interest here to purchase enough for a container shipment. 8) Looks like M-37 Dodge's in the background.

They would not be allowed back into the country due to demill regs. I will bet they are either sold over there or become range targets.

Well finally after a few months I was able to get to see up-close the Mutts in the boneyard. Our partners were nice to let me take some photos of the various models there. As you can see from the photos they are in relatively good shape, with complete engines and most still with their BII. There were mostly the M718A1 ambulance and M825 106 recoilless models, from what I could see. Most did not have any data plates; some had a few with no other info though than serial number. We did find a document, a DD 1397, in one of the M718A1s, photo below, maybe someone can figure out the time frame of these MUTTs.

Anyway enjoy the photos.

I see Government Liquidator forklift operators must work there. Very first pic has a hole from a fork in the side. I even see a sprinkling of A1's in there. It's a shame but they will never be seen here in the states. I am sure Ken will chime in on the serial number on that form.

Hello Paul and Rick. great photos, paul....thanks for posting!

One of Jay Mallari's neighbours in the Philippines (AJ Makalintal) has a C-718-series ambulance....his is a 1977 Contract (DAAE07-77-C-3404) so it seems likely that this one and possibly most others are from the same AM General contract. Probably delivered 1978.

After the description of having to put in a center section of the vehicle I wonder that myself. I would have saved that one for parts and found a better one to base the work on.
Ken, keep in mind there are a1's mixed in there too so they may be all over the place date wise.
