Korea war jeeps

Post by warbrds » Mon Mar 13, 2023 8:57 am

My father was a Combat Engineer in Korea.
A pic on one of the jeeps he used. The fatigue on the soldiers. Notice where the spare tire is.

Also a pic of a USMC jeep

They were still wearing canvas leggings in Korea?
2nd photo. Jeep crossing bridge.
Front passenger has what appears to be canvas leggings

I thought the the canvas leggings were for when they had regular shoes to wear, no boots

One more picture
You can see fear in his face and eyes.
Notice the M1 Garand on the left fender, GI has a 30 round magazine in his M1 Carbine. Rope on the front bumper.

The canvas leggings were worn over their boondockers. The USMC was not issued the same footwear as the US Army. It is odd that he is not wearing the pack boot as it looks very cold. The leggings tended to restrict blood flow to the feet and this would hasten the onset of frostbite.

Great pics and good timing.

I’m building a USMC GPW in Korean War trim so it’s good to have confirmation that the Marines used white US Stars on their vehicles too

Cheers

Hello,

Great pictures !!
The jeep is marked for the 3rd Infantry Division, maybe the 9th Field Artillery, HQ ?
There is a nice 3rd Infantry Division patch painted on the jeep's windshield.
Same division that Audie Murphy was in, who later became one of America's best actors, making many great movies.
He was also the highest decorated Veteran from WW2 !

The truck below with the ring mount and .50 Browning machine gun mounted on it, is a WW2 GMC CCKW-353 6x6 long wheel base, cargo truck .

Best Regards,
Ray
