JEATH War Museum in Kanchanaburi (Kwae bridge) Thaïland

Post by YLG80 » Thu Dec 29, 2022 2:36 pm

I have visited the JEATH (contraction for Japan-DEATH) war Museum in Kanchanaburi, Thailand.
I was curious to have a close view of the exposed jeep shown in many museum publication.
The jeep is almost totally ruined and is most likely exposed only for didactic reasons.
It’s an M38 driven by fierce japanese soldiers  and the jeep is labeled « WWII jeep ».
Here are a few photos.

Even in a Museum the jeep has marked her territory

Other than that, there is an interesting collection of wartime cameras, U.S and Japanese.

I have seen only two other jeeps in Thailand despite of having travelled by car from Bankgok to the Myanmar border and back.

A quite neat jeep in Kanchanaburi.

We took the Death Line train from the Kwae river bridge to Namtok and found the other jeep at the train station
It’s Mitsubishi jeep used on a daily base.

The Kwae river bridge JEATH museum near the POW Cemetery (Dutch and British, all U.S POW bodies were returned to the USA) is a nice, modern and interesting museum to visit.

It’s a « must visit » to remember that 110.000-160.000 prisoners (mostly from Asia) died along the whole train line from the East to the West of Thailand, and more than 30.000 military POW’s died from Kwae bridge to the Burma border.
