pictures of side-mounted brush guard?

Post by sam C. » Sun Jun 07, 2020 10:55 am

My '43 MB had an MP50 at one time and a brush guard attached to it (as indicated by the various holes).
Does anyone have a picture of a side-mounted MP50 with brush guard? The MP50 was mounted diagonally, so the antenna would be angled towards the back. It would have been right behind the driver, near the grab handle.
Thanks in advance.

Sam

Not all MP-50 installations mounted at the drivers side rear corner were at an angle, especially those with the brush guard.

Right. But mine is not on the rear corner. It’s on the side, right behind the driver. And the hole pattern has the MP50 at an angle.
I’ve only seen one period picture with the MP50 and brush guard mounted at this location. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take a picture of that picture.

I tried, not a radio expert tho. I do have a TM-11 Manual somewhere that does illustrate antenna bracket locations. No idea where it is. Will keep an eye out tho.

Thank you John. Mine isn’t that far back. The holes are above the side grab handle on the driver’s side. In fact, I think i have to remove the P bracket for the MP50 to be mounted. I’ll have to double check that.

I’ve wondered that, myself. It had radio equipment on it, as evidenced by hole patterns on the wheel well tops and behind the driver’s seat. It also had a hole in the dash for a 12 volt, volt meter/gauge. The rear of the transmission hump had been cut and peeled back too. Which makes me wonder if it wasn’t hastily modified to fit a generator that would have run off a belt that went through the floor, to a PTO. All that evidence in addition to the MP50 Mount being next to the driver (versus the rear corner).
All paint had been stripped by the time I came to own her. So no markings of any sort. No slot in the glove box either. So it wasn’t an MZ Jeep.

Hello Sam,

a few pictures with an antenna near the front grab handle.
There is not much space left to mount a brush guard.
Do you have any mystery holes?

Thanks for the photos, Knut. I just realized that Jeepdraw has drawings of how the brush guard was mounted. I’ll slap my MP50 on my MB today and post some pictures tomorrow.
There are mystery holes and, though it’s been awhile since I gave much thought to the MP50 or the brush guard, I believe Jeepdraw’s drawings showed those same hole locations as what is on my MB.
