Temporary markings
For those people who do not want to have their vehicles marked up with unit markings in a permanent way, there is an easy solution to make up temporary markings, based on magnetic foil / sheet.
Cut to size and prime and paint in base color and overpaint with the desired markings using templates or just painted by hand...
With normal speeds they will stay in their place as well.
I personally do not like to drive around all the time with a jeep marked up as belonging to a certain unit. I just have the blue drab hood numbers displayed on my GPW.
In this example I have used the makings for a vehicle belonging to the 1st Canadian Armoured Brigade Headquarters, which among others liberated my part of the world in 1945.
Note that the sequence of the pictures is opposite to the process of making and displaying..
And no...not all vehicles had stars on them at that time as well.

Thanks Chance.
Never too late....you can make up as many "identities" as you want and confuse the neighbours as to how many vehicles you own

Re: Temporary markings
I've been using magnetic plastic markings since 2018. With that year being the 100th Anniversary of the RAF, I added roundels to both of my Jeeps. The plastic was motorway grade, which is 0.8mm thick and good for a speed of 80mph - not that I expected to reach that in a Jeep!! It was only £16.00 for a 615mm x 2 metre roll which left plenty of spare plastic. Even if the surface of the vehicle isn't perfectly flat, a little heat from a hair dryer will allow the plastic to conform to the shape.
The Flying Control across my windscreen is painted on, but that was hidden in 2019 by "Ordnance Depot", for a photoshoot to raise awareness of a local military site under threat of development.
Late in 2019, I gave the Jeep an "Airbase Medical Unit" look. So now I have a number of different looks for my vehicles, depending on the type of event I'm attending.

Re: Temporary markings
Clever idea, Klaas!
Thanks for sharing that with us.
I've seen that we can buy the magnetic sheets form Amazon. Size 610 X 365.

Re: Temporary markings
Thanks guys.
Steve probably beat me to it in making them, but there must be others also. I thought it a good idea to share this method with all 503-ers.
It really works well and I have repeatedly used my "temps" for weeks on end and store them on a flat piece of coated steel when not in use.

Re: Temporary markings
I haven't seen many people using them around the UK over the last 15 years I've had vehicles, but I'm surprised more people don't. I guess that those particularly into re-enacting, probably pick a unit and then just get uniforms and accessories to suit that branch of the forces.

Re: Temporary markings
Hi Klaas,
I allowed myself to cheat a little on the markings...
Historically 100% incorrect, and only understandable to insiders

Bi Klaas,
Yes I served 1990-1991 (90-4)at 48PAINFBAT, 2nd LTN second platoon Charlie company.
So this explains all isn’t it
Not sure where you are located, but I live close to Deventer, in Schalkhaar to be more exact.
