New Acquisition, 1943 GPW Radio Jeep

Post by Fortythreegpw » Fri Jan 11, 2019 5:28 pm

My new 1943 GPW painted in Normandy invasion markings. Appears to have the original 55W/12V dual 6 volt battery setup for the radios, covers included. Also has the radio suppression kit installed. Complete with jack, jack handle, oil can, tire pump, canvas top under passenger seat and a brand new Ford script spare tire that will replace the one on the spare. Bed needs a little cleanup but otherwise Jeep is in great shape.

Hello 43,

Welcome to the great G503 !!

You have a beautiful and rare jeep indeed !!!
Many rare parts your jeep has installed still :D :D :D
It appears to have been very well taken care of since the War, a true treasure !!
Looks ready to drive across Normandy and take part in the 75th celebrations there.
I love the radio set up, your jeep is a masterpiece :D :D :D :D

Best Regards,

Ray

I like the look of this GPW! :D :D

That appears to be one of the 1000 MWO-ORD-G503-W5 12v PTO power systems. Here is a thread on both 12v systems.

This is also the first jeep, other than my MZ-1, when the combined 6 piece Ford sheet metal suppression is in place with the W5 PTO power system. I wonder if the sheet metal items were available separately?

55W/12V Floor Mounted Generator

If you ever wondered what that generator under the dome between the seats looks like here it is. Pretty substantial generator.

Yes, welcome to G503!

I sure would like the serial numbers on the generator, regulator and top of the sheet metal cover, Also, do you have a photo of the front of the generator mount on the gas tank side as all the contract jeeps have a dented gas tank there?

Mark, the generator serial number is GDJ4804C10X351. The cover's serial number is SP-4022B. The regulator is under the generator as you know and I don't plan on pulling that any time soon but when I do I will get it to you. The tank does not have any indents in it at all.

I see what you mean on the indent on the tank. It doesn’t look like mine has the indent in that corner. Now I need to remove the generator to find out. Need to clean under there anyways.
