The "Hongerwinter" was terrible.
It started immediately after D-Day and the Germans increased the pressure after Market Garden as a retaliation measure.
Historians estimates the deaths from the famine to about 18.000 !

Cruelty during that time was beyond belief. Except for those who underwent it. So sad what humans can do to one another.

A celebrity on a post war CJ jeep exposed for raising funds: Grace "de Monac" :)!
The original caption was in French and it says :
In 1953, Grace visits her old school, the ‘Stevens School’, in Philadelphia. Sitting on a Jeep, she poses for the photographers.

And here is another marvelous photo from Frank. Thanks.

Frank comments the photo as follows :
"This lady was kind enough to pose next to my 43 GPW USMC ambulance jeep at the 2013 MVPA convention in Portland, Oregon.
That was the year this jeep was inducted into the MVPA Hall Of Fame.
This jeep is currently in possession of the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia.
When the new Iwo Jima exhibit is completed, the jeep will be featured in that display as the original TAC markings are from B company, 5 th Medical Battalion, 27 Marines, 5 th Marine Division, Fifth Marine Amphibious Corps which was on Iwo Jima.
I wrote an article for the Army Motors about the jeep, the research and the restoration many years ago.
