Hi Yves,

Yes, note the early black steering wheel, but also note the fire extinguisher bracket holes on the passenger side that I am sure Gary noticed !!
Only the early slat grill had it mounted there.
He must have worked in the Photo Intel Department :D :D

I saw the steering wheel and thought "early GPW".. Am I wrong? I have that steering wheel for my script GPW...do I need a different one?

Hello Jeff,

No you are right, both Willys and Ford used the early steering wheels, whether black or green I am not sure if they both were used
as far as color type goes ?

This jeep just has the fire extinguisher bracket holes on it on the passenger side, the only real clue as far as I can tell.

Saw this on the FB. Lots of great detail, and looks like a possible WAC Dame driver:

Hello Zeph.

That is a great picture right there !!
I wonder where the jeep is today, if it is still around ?
A Jeep bought by the Elks Club in Everett, Mass., the kids flashing the V for Victory :D
I am sure they all loved the ride in the Jeep too :D

I bet some of them got the OD fever and got a jeep after the War, or their parents did .
It would be cool to recreate that picture today with any of the people still around, and do it at the same location, with a new sign made :D

Such an effort was made during the War to build and pay for the jeeps, that I am sure those involved back then, are happy every time one gets rescued and restored from decades of use or neglect.

The vehicles represent us all, and that should never be forgotten.

We could say the Jeeps are Unifiers :D :D :D

Yes that is what they are, back then, and today, our Heritage and Legacy !!

Best Regards,
Ray

As far as identifying that jeep.....I noticed immediately how well the blue drab numbers were doing what the blue drab was designed to do!

Also, Their would be a data plate attached to the jeep to show it was purchased for the war effort. In the magazine Army Motors sometime back in the 1980s was a great story about a high school in California that raised money to buy 6 jeeps. One of the jeeps was found and restored because the owner found the brass fata plate tell how the jeep was purchased. In the picture the pate was on the passenger side above the wheel wheel and was about 3inches by 6inchies in size.
Not a jeep, but I just found a WW2 wheel chair with a data plate attached to it saying how it was purchased by a radio station and donated to the war effort.
I sent Ray pictures of the wheel chair, so if you can post them Ray to show one of the data plates. Also, if anyone has any contact information with the radio station, could you contact me?

I remember that article! It reminds me of a pair of binoculars that had a similar, but smaller plaque on it that I saw, possibly at a museum. I think the idea was to show the troops how much the folks back home supported them.

This is quite a discovery, and very related to the civilian fundraising efforts for our Military and Troops that went on all over America during WW2 !!

I bet there are still some Christmas Neighbors Club Members still around that remember the efforts !!

Here is very interesting information on the history of the station, as a matter of fact, the Hindenburg disaster was covered by one of their soon to be very famous reporters !!

The radio station is still going strong in Chicago !

Great discovery Frank !!!

Ray
