To all,

Will have to check my 1943 GPW, DOD 12-7-43, serial number 164440, I think it has the deflector under the hood.

Mark T and fellow Gee members,

Found the original photos of the 43 GPW I got from Bill H. If I recall correctly, I think Bill H brought it up to your place in Dunnigan and I picked it up from there. Note the exterior hood hinges, a thing of beauty. I remember the bondo on the hood and taking it off and the holes were in the hood for the deflector. However, that doesn’t mean the hood was original to the jeep. So, I will post this correction on the Gee.

So, I no longer say for sure that my 43 GPW originally had a hood deflector. With the hinge replacement, there would be no F mark on the hinge.

I stand corrected on this issue,

Frank

I haven't got the hang yet of posting photos, even after reading the "how to do it" on the Gee instructions

French woman kissing a GI driving a German POW in a jeep in Paris.
Note the gun just near the POW hands :o !
[OK, picture reduced the size, because after analysis by specialist of Jeep Dames, it happened that the woman kissing the driver was in fact a man  !
That photo has not its place here.]

I'm kind of certain I can safely say not all Germans are the Hollywood diehard types that will try to kill you in your sleep and escape back to their lines for all that food and comfort they were missing.
It's sort of like watching the Iraqi Army on day 1 of Desert Storm 1...the fierce forces that were going to make this a "long" war....surrendering to a helicopter or anyone, so they could eat something and possibly escape Sadam's rule.

We became friendly with the Germans, the Japanese, less so the North Koreans, Chinese, Vietnamese and Russians that supported them over the years, I don't see us making too many friends with ISIL or the Taliban in the future.

Maybe he was a Clerk :)

Yeah, pic says Paris 1944. I think he'd have a LONG way to walk before finding his lines from downtown Paris at that particular time. Pretty sure most German soldiers knew it was over by then. Probably happy to be in US hands rather than the Russians.

Hmmmmm
Think it could also be a French man kissing a French jeep driver ?
Maybe the two know each other ?
That logo on the side of the Sherman does resemble the logo of the French 2nd armored division.
Often times captions aren't spot on with their assumptions.

Not to forget the flag hanging on the left side of the jeep. French national tri-colors ?
