Today's Jeep dame of the Day is my mother, Second Lieutenant Jane M. Coldwell, a U.S. Army nurse pictured on Leyte, Philippines, Asiatic Pacific Theater, in June 1945. She was stationed at the 133rd General Hospital and outranked my father, a Sargeant in the Tank Corps in Europe. Enjoy!

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. I wonder what the story is there.

Here's my Hunch:

Germans surrendered & retreated Paris 25 August, 1944 - a full month after July 20 Hitler assassination attempt. Any sane person - German or otherwise - knew The Third Reich was Crumbling and Hitler was KooKoo. Dietrich von Cholitz, commander of the German garrison and the military governor of Paris, allegedly had orders from Hitler that the French capital "must not fall into the enemy's hand except lying in complete debris," which was to be accomplished by bombing it and blowing up its bridges.

So rather than obliterate the city, Cholitz disobeyed Hitler and surrendered - and any other German officer with any common sense likely did likewise. Firing squads just aren't a pleasant option.

That "prisoner" may have had some similar feelings towards his "captors" and no interest whatsoever in escaping, thus, the weapon within his grasp.
Back in the day, it was indeed "problematic" to express your "feelings". There are many photos out there of captives within arms reach of weapons that they appear to have no interest in using.

Actually, it's a couple of guys, Frenchmen to be precise, IMO
You can see the cross of Lorraine on the tank in the background.
These are perhaps men of the 2nd French armored Div who were active in the liberation of Paris.
To me it’s a woman. To me, she has a woman little wrist watch and woman hands
With Russian, it could be a couple of guys, but not in Paris in 1944, although we never know during the liberation fever.

Here is a particular photo submitted by yhhe2003 in his amazing thread "mixed photos WW2"

The photo was taken in Písek, a town in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic in 1945.

Emily Osborne works an eighty acre farm north of Albert Lea; she is shown here checking the oil in her jeep - 1952

I've been through Albert Lea many times.
As a kid we'd pass through on our way to grandmother's house.
My last visit was a few years back taking my old roadster to the Indy Speedway for a club meet.

Handy truck stop with about a half dozen restaurants and restrooms!

While there, I ran into a couple of WWII reenactors. Young slim guys with great uniforms.
I complimented them..they really looked the part..especially compared to older, heavier guys you usually see.
