Hello,

What a great picture of the lady with her son in the jeep !
I wonder if they are both still around, that would make a great recreated, then and now photo !!
I did that a few years ago with a WW2 GI, who had a pic taken with 2 little girls in early March of 45.
The GI had given the kids a Hershey bar, and one was wiping her face in the pic, as the chocolate was melted from being in Bob's pocket.
The girls were found, and Bob gave the little girls, now full grown, 2 big Hershey bars 60 years later on the same spot in Seingbouse, France !
French reenactors in GI uniforms, stood in for the 2 other 70th Division GI's in the original picture, they
are still resting in France.

It was quite an experience to witness !
The Town and Mayor put on a great reception for Bob, and all the Trailblazers who attended.

Maybe you could ask around about the picture and find the people ?

Best Regards,
Ray

Hello from the Dame of the Day in CJ-2a, likely an early model with the column shift. Frank?

Didnt the CJ2s have the fuel tank filler on the side, or was this a later addition ?

Yves and Mark,

Yes, the 2A did have the fuel filler on the side. As to why this one does not, I cannot answer that question. Perhaps Fred Caldwell can.

Two colors were available, this one is Harvest Tan with the Orange rims, the other color was Pasture Green with Yellow rims.

As to what year, it tool indents were in 1945 and early 1946 model CJ 2A's as well as the column shift.

Could of been in Fred Coldwell's Preproduction Jeep book that I read of one of the civilian jeeps used the MB grill for a short while.

The Harvest Tan jeep with Sunset Red solid disc wheels in today's (April 7, 2019) Jeep Dame of the Day photo is a model CJ-2 preproduction civilian jeep with "JEEP" stamped into the hood sides, front windshield panel and rear tailgate. The fuel filler neck and cap are underneath the driver's seat, similar to a MB but without a seat pan, having only cross ribs on the bottom of the seat frame. The height of these seat backs is the same as on the MB.

On the front bumper one can see the Willys Engineering Dept. "X" number which, though not legible to me, might be "X64". As Jeff spotted, the grill is a MB grill painted Harvest Tan. The parking lights use the military blackout light housing but have a frosted lens instead of the military combat safety zone blackout lens. A horizontal oval drain hole is stamped into the front sides of the driver and passenger compartments. The ivory shift ball on the column shift lever was used only on the CJ-2. The production model CJ-2A used a black shift ball on it's column shift lever. The body side brackets forward and rear of the rear axle hold the break-down civilian top bows, absent here. That's a great photo, YLG80, from summer 1945 that welcomes the jeep to the Peacetime World.
Happy Jeep Trails,

Waaoh, I've learned a lot today with that pleasant Lady in that CJ-2.
Thanks, Fred, for that comment!

I've found a better resolution sample of that photo on Gettyimage:

Once you are on the page, hold the CTRL key and turn your mouse wheel to zoom, up to 160X. Cannot get beyond that zoom value.
You will see what Fred mentioned : JEEP written on the hood. I did not see that at first :D .

You might hit the PrtScrn key to capture that rare and expensive (500 USD on my iPad  ) photo and paste it in a picture/photo app. for your own collection.
Then save it.
It seems to be a very rare photo!

Thanks for that explanation.
Yves

Now the photo is @ 475 USD on my Desktop :? IP tracking?
