Is this a WW2 Jeep?

Post by Frankjeep21 » Sun Feb 12, 2012 5:28 pm

I am new here but I will slowly but surely learn.

I pose a question on the historical accuracy of this jeep.

Photos attached.

I understand the wheels are incorrect. What else needs changing? It is being advertised as a 1943 MB.

Thank you!

Frank

Looks like it probably is. However not a perfect restoration by any stretch. Windshield, wipers, mirror, bumper, drivers seat, all look incorrect to me. However the grill and front axle look correct, probably the frame is right, but need more pictures and you will get responses from others who are better at spotting things than myself.
Look for the metal tag on the inside of the left front frame rail. If it says MB...... that's the best id. Often they are missing, so don't worry if it is not there. Also read the data plates on the glove box door if it has one.
Yep, took it apart too long ago, and now can’t remember everything.....

Kind of hard to tell by the picture, but I think the frame might be a GPW one, not MB. Looks square U-shaped rather than round.

Looks like a Willys rear seat.

Cheers Gary

You're right Gary, and the front seats belong to something else altogether, ..not MB or GPW

Going on the tool box lock indents, it's an early Ford tub.. Not too much of this is a '43MB

There's something strange going on with that windshield... it looks wrong.

It's because someone has removed the fold out part and made the frames part of the outer.

Weird is about how I'd describe it.

Notice along with a lot of bondo on the rear panel and sides, there has been an incorrect patch installed in the pioneer section. I had the same issue with mine.
