Handcart m3a4 Cushman

Post by usfm » Tue Jan 24, 2023 5:51 am

Hi ,

are there any ww2 pictures or first hand storys with Handcarts pulled behind the Cushman Airborne ?
I know of picturs with mortar handcarts and the 75mm pack howitzer, but they are from french army in the late 40s and 50s.

Would be very cool to see/ read something!!

Thank you

Christian

I have a recent picture of a Cushman 53 with handcart that I took at the Cushman meet in Ohio last June. I will find it and it is also in the Cushman Club of America magazine I believe. Both original condition.

Hi, thank you, but I would like to see pictures taken in 1945 or 1944. I would like to know if the handcarts were really used with the cushman or if it is only modern use like the German Infantry carts with Wehrmacht Motorcycles.

Thanks christian

I don't have any pictures from that era but the owner said they were used with Cushman's and his hand cart was made by Trussbilt. It had a little drop pin set up to connect it.

I know you aren't interested but am posting pic's I have for anyone who might do a search later for something related. For me it would be interesting to see if the Scooters all had the hitch set up or was it something field expedient thinking hey we have a scooter and a cart so why not?

I hope some period pictures turn up.

I always like to see cushmans and handcarts.
So thank you for the picture!

Maybe there will be more information on ww2 use of this combination

Here is a link from an auction with a handcart hooked up.

A member here on the Gee sent me a period pic on the French in Indo China pulling a pack howitzer with a Cushman.

Have not ever seen any period pictures of the Cushmans towing anything, except the French in Indochina, I tried towing the Pack with the Cushman, have a little film somewhere too, but it's a bit heavy, and is dangerous, would not recommend it!
