Handcart shipping to Europe?

Post by bfryar44 » Tue Sep 08, 2020 7:55 am

I have a WW2 M3A4 cart that needs to be shipped from TN to Belgium. Recipient will be paying for the shipping costs. Any recommendations on who to use for shipping this?

Too big and heavy for Fed Ex and DHL.
Thanks in advance.

Either an expeditor to stow it in a container (add delivery to port to your cost), you will need to strap the cart on a pallet for this. He will pay local port fees as well (350 euro)

Or you transport it as a rolling piece: https://www.marlog-car-handling.eu

You will need a bill of sales so the buyer can proof it is his when collecting. Check carefully with the shipping company if you need an export license. All former military stuff needs a license, even if it is 75 years old. This license is around 650 USD. If you do not have this, you may trigger an inspection which leads to storage costs that easily will double the total shipping cost.

Maybe it is all not that strict for a cart but better safe than sorry.

Airfreight is really cheap these days, if broken down to smallest size, and packed well, maybe spray it black to avoid nasty questions, it should be possible, complete Harleys have been shipped for $1200.00 so a cart is much, much lighter and smaller.

My 2 cents,

Air freight is never an option. That costs a fortune, especially these days with limited available volume due to limited nr of passenger flights.

And repainting it is simply too simple, but I assume things are less strict with a cart vs a complete vehicle.

This is for weapons not for stuff like that.
I would be surprised if there is any problem to import such a simple cart in Belgium, even painted with OD color.

Nope, ALL ex-mil. I checked with 3 shipping companies and they all confirmed. You can take the risk but if your shipment gets flagged they will inspect with storage costs as a result. That multiplies your initial cost easily.

You are really contradicting yourself! there's no passengers, so much more room for freight, and therefore much cheaper now! just check it out.

Ok, I explain:

Passenger planes take cargo as economiser->15% of all passenger planes can be converted to freight->Very limited transatlantic travels(5%}->cargo bookings tripled on cargo planes->price x3

But it does not matter, a cart will never be airlifted, every shipping company will offer you shared container seafreight. Cost you 300-500 usd+ Euro port fees 300 euro.

Well, I have heard exactly the opposite from 2 independant sources, so I don't know, but I'm going to try it this fall, as I have to ship an Indian bike to Europe.

My info is from June, so maybe things have improved since passenger travel is picking up again. Hopefully this whole Covid Crimp One Off will be soon over, so live returns back normal.
