Hand cart to Jeep

Post by brad » Tue Jun 30, 2015 12:11 pm

I attemped to attach my cart to my Jeep it would not go over the Pintle unless I picked up the rear of the hand cart as high as the pintle it slipped on but it was a two person job to get it off.

Question: First I have a Repo Draw Bar is the Hole to small
or is the pintle not actually WWII
either way should I just grind off some from the pintle and or grind some of the inside of the Eye on the hand cart

Good day Brad. My understanding of the repop drawbar is that they are spot on as to the size of the WWII bar. I have seen a number of post war pintle's and non GPW and MB pintle's that were larger. With that said i would resize the pintle if it were mine.

I've got to lift the rear of my handcart up to get it over the pintle.

If they are both original, weld up a new ring adapter, one that bolts through the existing lunnette with a collar extending further down the shaft and down along the sides of the shaft to prevent twisting, and a larger lunnette on the other end to fit the jeep pintle. (trailer supply houses have them)
You could undo the whole thing with one large wingnut or nut with two pieces of bar welded on in the fashion of a wingnut, and stow it in the jeep sponsons.
A) hope your not towing the handcart fast
B) never good to grind original stuff down....

Towing the handcart was probably a one time occurrence but I took it out to Normandy during the D-Day anniversary as I wanted to recreate one of my favourite photographs during the invasion.

I don't have to lift the rear of mine, but it is a little finicky about how it's positioned to slide over the Pintle. I've towed mine at up to 30 mph with no apparent problem, but I wouldn't want to go any faster.

I find this thread very intersesting. In the photo of the para in the rear seat of the Jeep, looks to be wearing a pair of captured fallschirmjager gloves. Does that look to be true?

Maybe what I see is something in the background that makes it look like a longer glove. Is there any info on these 101st paras and 4th infantry soldiers as far as names at this historical meeting location ?
