FS: 1951 M38 EXCELLENT condition (CO)

Post by wc56daveyboy » Mon Sep 20, 2021 6:04 am

FS: restored 1951 willys M38

I completed a restoration on my 1951 M38 few months ago.

I started with a very very clean non running original out of dry high desert Wyoming area.
Sheet metal is honestly the best I’ve ever started with. No rust!

This was a non running project that came with a rebuilt L134

I rebuilt this from the ground up after full tear down.

Sandblasted everything and replaced all seals, bearings, u-joints etc. Full brand new brake system including hoses, metal
Lines, rubber lines, shoes, master cylinder And wheel cylinders.
Full rebuild of the fuel system including new fuel lines, fuel pump, restored original fuel tank. professional rebuilt carb (scout pilot on the G.. good reputation )

5 New 700-16 NDT’s on correct M38 wheels.
All new seat canvas (weebee webbing)
All radiator hoses, belts, wiring under hood, lights, etc.. Motor mounts, transfer and transmission rubber mounts all new as well.

Starts and runs super.
I finished this about 4 months ago and drive around town.
Runs, drives and stops great.
Runs smooth and drives nicely down the road at speed. Front end tight. No wandering, shakes or front end wobble. Tight and straight driver
.
professionally rebuilt engine many years ago. I do not know the motor application; it’s a willys L-134. it’s just a great running rebuilt with awesome oil pressure (around 60 lbs warm)
No smoke. Runs great. Starts easily.
replacement of rear main seal with one from Classic military vehicles, the best out there, was required . No drips or leaks.

transmission had a complete rebuild with all new syncros, bearings, main shaft, second gear, seals etc. everything needed. Transfer case rebuilt. New bearings, seals, gaskets.
Shifts great. No leaks.
Performs as as it should.

I rebuilt this jeep with 12 volts. It has a one wire alternator. And only minimal wiring to start and run. headlights, brake lights and running lights work.
None of the blackouts working or wired up.

I’ve saved all the major 24v components for the next guy should he want them.
None of the wipers working on
Vacuum but I saved every bit of vacuum lines to put back it one wanted to

I have a couple of used canvas tops to go with this. And some door skins NOS.
Not sure side curtains.

Why am I considering selling?

I’m more of a dodge guy. And ww2 guy for that matter.

I’ve got well over 20k into this
(Have lots of receipts and pics to show work)

Clean Colorado title in my name.
Lots of spare and extra parts.
Located Colorado Springs area

Just want my money back to finish dodge projects

You will be very hard pressed to find a cleaner example

If I didn't have 3 M38s I'd scoff this one up. Nice jeep for the money!
