Frame battery tray M38

Post by CH47Driver » Mon Aug 03, 2020 8:29 am

Looking for a M38 frame mounted battery tray. The one that attaches to the engine mount and the front tubular crossmember. I’d prefer to find an original and not have to modify a CJ tray. Has anyone started fabricating ones yet? Has anyone actually modified a civilian one to match the M38 height?

Thanks

No but I can give you dimensions and pictures for both so you can do it. It would be very easy to cut and modify the legs from a MB/CJ one; the M38 is lower and has no little tabs, so the box can sit down on the tray. As you know.
Don't know of anyone making M38 trays. No demand. Ok, one.
They do make the in box trays though (MM does).

I did a CJ2A one once. Just had to flatten the two little tabs that keep the battery from moving forwards or backwards. The battery box sat in it perfectly and I think even one of the bolt holes lined up for bolting the box to the tray.

Thanks for the advice. I was about to pull the trigger and convert the 2a when I finally found one yesterday that is most likely in unserviceable condition that’s being shipped to me. At the very least I can use it as a template to have a nearby shop fabricate an exact copy for me. Best case I can salvage it. If I get one fabricated I’ll be sure to post pictures and offer the shops info in case others are having the same trouble I did.
