M38 winch setup value
I'm afraid $2000.00 is not even half price. Most of the original parts are not obtainable anymore. Several people have produced some nice replica parts though.
My experiences is:
PTO: ~$750.00
Frame: ~$350.00
Drive Shafts: ~$570.00
Hanger Bearing: ~$450.00
Total: ~$2,120.00
And this does not include the Ramsey model 50 or 50r winch. I have been looking for one of these “mythical” winches for 5+ years now. Other than a few pictures I have not been able to find anyone who is willing to sell one of these winches. It seems as though everybody wants one and only a few people have the very few that may still exist, and they are not willing to part with them at any price! I would not be surprised if one were to become available, that it might go for as much as $5,000.00.
That puts a complete winch setup at around ~ $7,000.00+
If someone could find all original OEM parts who knows what it may be worth!

Several months ago do you guys remember the M38A1 and M100 trailer that was advertized in the Military Vehicle mag? This is the jeep that was suppodesly in a museumnin China for the last 20-30 years. It had a complete Ramsey 50R setup. I spoke to the owner and offered him $6k for ONLY the complete winch setup. He refused, for whatever reason.
Don't think less than $5k would touch a setup if the owner knew what he had.

Re: WTB Ramsey Winch for M38
I have a used Ramsey Winch Power Take Off Unit that's missing the engagement lever. I am not sure what the PTO is worth, I've had it for 25 years. My 1954 M38A1 has a working, original Ramsey Winch. I would consider selling the PTO, i'll need to research its value.

Re: WTB Ramsey Winch for M38
I came across NOS Ramsey 50R winches in crates about 6 years ago. He had at least 3 and wanted $10,000 per, and so that was that. Brent Mullins bought this guy out when he died. I don't know what he got exactly but this collector had massive amounts of M38 stuff. It was his favorite Jeep. I visited his shop. Candyland for the M38 enthusiast. I bought a lot from him to finish my "NOS M38 Jeep."
