WTB Parts for 1964 M38A1
Hi friends,
I’m hoping to restore a Willy’s 1964 M38a1. I believe it to be a USMC Jeep. I’m hoping to have some questions answered and I am in the market to get parts for this jeep. It was converted to a 12 V system so many of those parts are missing and needed. Need generator, starter, and lots more. Let me know if anyone can help.
I am committed to put this jeep together nicely. I will need canvas for the seats and the top as well.
Did the Marine Corps jeeps have different front shackles than the Army Jeep’s?
Also there are two extra gauges to the right of the normal gauge assembly, I believe one of those two gauges was an hour meter and it’s missing. I don’t know what the other gauge was. I will need those gauges as well
Thank you for your time,
Raj.

Good luck with the jeep, they are fun!
Advice for you, put in your location ! One of us could be just down the street from you, but thinking you are in a different part of the world, and not reach out to you.
Again, good luck on the jeep!

Not sure if I understand here...are you planning to keep it 12 volt or convert back to 24?

Thank you. I’ve updated my location on my information. I’d like to take it back to 24volts.

You do know that your jeep was produced by Kaiser; who bought Willys Overland Motors in 1953, but used the Willys name until 1964.
The USMC jeeps I have seen have the rear cross member cover with the lifting eyes on the ends, and are undercoated with tar. That is because Marines like to play in the ocean with their toys, and need to lift them out when they sink.
I just sold a 64 like that.
Reconverting to 24 volt is a good idea; however realize that it will cost you more than you paid for the jeep. These parts are out there; search on the internet. Contact GIJUNK who posts here as M38A1 MP Jeep; he has a ton of crap. I mean parts, for sale.
Generator
Regulator
Starter
All the lights
Cables, including the ones from the Gen to Reg
Those. holes in your dash are bogus; weld them up.
Canvas? Call Weebee Webbing; they are the only canvas maker worth using. He posts here under the pseudonym of Dave Pizzoferrato.
