Were generators mounted on trailers?

Post by sam C. » Mon Apr 04, 2022 8:33 am

Were the PE95 generators ever part of a set up that had them originally on trailers? By that, I mean, were there mobile PE95 generators? Or only pe95 generators that were sat onto trailers for transport?

I don't have any pictures, but I recall seeing PE95 generator trailers when I was in the Navy in the early 80's

Check out this link.

It appears that during the war the 1 ton Ben Hur were the trailer of choice. This allowed for the generator, spares, jerrycans, etc.

There are pictures also pictures of the post-war purpose built 1 ton K52 trailers for the PE-95's.

Hope this helps,
Peter

Hello Sam,

Yes they were mounted in Ben Hur trailers.
Several G members have them, and have posted pictures in the past.

If you find an all steel Ben Hur Generator trailer, you will see bolt patterns in the floor where they were attached.
If I remember right there was also a hole drilled to pipe exhaust away as well ?

I think Dave, D.R.H. has one that he recently restored.
He is found in the 1/2 ton thru 2 ton truck section often, with his Chevy restoration.
He would be the guy to ask about specifics on the generator trailers.

Best Regards,
Ray

I purchased this MBT with a PE95 mounted in it. Not sure if it was done during the war but from what I discovered during the trailer restoration it does point to the military doing it.

See pages 12 thru 14 of Technical Manual TM-904 describing how the PE 95 Power Unit is normally installed and operated in trailer Type K52.

Do you have a link for a PDF of this manual?
