What type of engines were used in WW2 army or other branch welders?

The Hobart welder was powered by a Chrysler Industrial 6-Cyl. Almost the same engine as was in the Dodge WC series. It was a 300 amp welder.

Here is one at a Navy field, but the Army used them as well:

Adam,

I'm not aware of any. Everything I've seen so far has been the 300 amp units from Hobart.

They did use the Willys engine to power a DC welder in some of the mobil welding /machine shop trucks.

Do you have a reference for this? So far I'm finding only a 300 amp welder powered by a V-8. in the M-12 shop truck.

As an aside *most* welders are DC current. As an aside to the aside universal motors will run on AC or DC current and the Hobart welders supplied to the Corps of Engineers have 110V outlets and an auxiliary winding that produces 110-115 vdc for running a drill and grinder/sander.
