My New PU-58/G

Post by reeg » Mon Dec 28, 2020 2:59 pm

Found this by chance on a local for sale site. I’m new to generators but it appears fairly complete besides the sheet metal. Haven’t started the old girl yet. Turns over and had good compression just not getting fire. Have to trace the power issue when it warms up. Now to find the correct side panels for it. Happy new owner!

Oh and The guy I purchased the generator from threw the 12 volt battery on it. Not this guy. 🙂

South West of Harrisburg. The couple I purchased it from got it from an older ladies who’s husband past. Was it one of your generators Adam? Seems to be a decent unit. Just needs a little love. I don’t know much about these generators. The side panels are not original correct? Not slotted and appear to be a good home made replacement.

Not one of mine, just saw that it was for sale. Panels arent original. They should be louvered and exhaust should come out the top. Was working on one today, post right below this, some pics there, Not having much luck on my end. I have a parts unit on the hill, might have panels, might have to use it to get this one going, who knows. I like your driveway pictures, no snow,, no ice, no water puddles.

We had around 10 inches of snow but the last few days took care of that. I prefer the way my driveway looks too. 🙂

Besides from the replacement red panels, the generator appears to be painted a lusterless gray. Once I source original panels, I’d like to paint the genny lusterless gray instead of olive drab. Was this a common color for these units? Probably lusterless Navy gray?

Found the original olive drab under the gray color. It does look like a Navy gray but think I’ll stick with the original green. 🙂

I have 2 N-15 gensets here, dont think there is gray under them either. In the long run, Its your genset, paint it with what you like. I have seen some gray engines in gensets, however postwar engine rebuilders painted the engines gray. Look at all the hobart welders using mb engines, engines are gray.
