PE-95 (And Similar) Weight?

Post by Rustman » Sun Jan 26, 2020 4:42 am

Question for those who have broken these down. What does the sheet metal and base weigh on one of these? I have an opportunity to get some that the engines are gone from and was kicking around the idea of making one into a cover/concealment for a modern genset at reenactments.

Thanks

It will be in the neighborhood of 450 to 500 lbs.

Yikes! Guess it would need wheels even empty.

Thanks

As a follow up is there any evidence that during the war they were fitted with wheels or mounted to bomb trailers or similar? I know about the Ben Hur for cross country work. I was wondering about more like a large base or air field setup.

Thanks

How about the hobart e3 or e5 types, smaller cheaper and lighter. Still a couple hundred pounds empty, plus your genset.

Sometimes something can be cheaper then free. But sometimes it's not. I have an opportunity at one or even two units at the price of Free. Were I to actually shop for one, then yeah I'd want a smaller genset.

Tech manual states the early units, A, B, C models used the Ford 4 cylinder engine similar to tractor and weighed 1360 pounds
Later units up to model PE 95 K weighed 1545 pounds. They will overload your average 1/2 ton pick up truck.
