Post by artillerydan » Thu Jun 27, 2019 9:33 am

Found a PE 95 with what the guy says is a MB engine with a SN of 3T5889. Does this sound right or is he just not looking at the thing right. is the T a 7 or??? thoughts don't have a picture.... Just have one crappy picture of engine from other side.

My guess is that should be a 7 in the serial number if that is a true WW2 Willys engine. Take a look at the casting number on the distributor side of the block. I tis at the bottom of block where oil pan bolts up. A WW2 Willys block will have casting number 638632 in about 1/2 " tall numbers. A 641087 block is post WW2 after about mid 1946 I believe. If block is 638632 that number should have a 7 in it and not a T. Best wishes;

Go and look at it before you buy it. take a flashlight and fine sandpaper. a x10 magnifier too. If you plan on putting in it a jeep without rebuilding it, check it out good. Missing air filter or broken hose or broken off exhaust pipe could mean stuck valves from damp air and rust. No covers could mean rusted off spark plugs. If the thermostat housing is cracked, and rusty in that area, check for cracks inthe block by distributor. If you cant turn it 2 full turns with a wrench without it getting stuck, it will definitely need work. Nice to crank it with a battery too and check compression. 2 out of 3 that I look at have stuck valves or seized or cracked engines.

Serial number should be on oval pad behind oil filter, not above water pump. Should be a faint MB before the dash in the serial number, use the magnifier.
A PE95K probably has the wrong engine.

Post a picture of what it is. sometimes they are PU-58's or N-15's
