Hobart Generator with a WILLYS L134
Took a ride to Brimfield MA. for this enormous 5 day antique flea market, Picked this thing up down the road from there. Willys 1942 Engine and W4 date coded generator. Late war cylinder head. Fram Oil filter, PVC is blocked off on the intake, draft tube. Wonder how much draft this will induce on a stationary generators slipstream? Early push on small tube type dipstick. Radiator is of the PO's doing along with no covers and some other tomfoolery. It does crank, has some compression in all 4 cls. runs a little on ether. Not going to run on that shellac in the fuel system.

No idea, but until about 21 Jan 43 none of the engines had a PCV. RUN IT! Or, sell me the dipstick and tube.

What are you going to do with that small dipstick and short tube?
Manifold is tapped for PVC so something has been changed there.
After I get her running, and if I find no info on the genset, will probably pull the motor. So far I can only make out 120 VAC on the generator nameplate.

I’ll extend the dipstick and tube for the draft tube engine I’m building.

Re: Hobart Generator with a WILLYS L134
4 months and I finally got time to get back to this thing. Got her running after getting rid of the shellac can fueling it. Its got some blow by out the draft tube. Will run her for another hour and see if she still is venting. Then take a compression test and decide if she goes out for parts or stays together, I really need that A circuit modified WWll generator and small voltage regulator for another project. 8 patent fuel bowl under tons of green paint. Engine casting of 7-28 serial number points to 42.

I’ll buy the engine if you’re interested in selling it

Not planning on selling the engine, I know it runs, will get around before winter to running her again for a few hours and then take a cold and warm compression test. This thing is missing parts and pretty po-atized so i will probably use the engine for one of my projects.

Re: Hobart Generator with a WILLYS L134
Spent a few hours on her yesterday, 3 compressions were good, 1 was low. Still burns oil pretty bad, don't have to be an expert to which cylinder has issues. I will tear the motor down this winter to see what her issues are.

Try adjusting the valves in the cylinder that has low compression, it will buy you some time but won’t help the oil burning. Keep us posted
