Removing an engine from a PE-95
Pretty soon I am going to be removing the engine from a PE-95G generator. Does anyone have any tips or tricks on the best way to go about it? I went through the manual I have and nothing on engine removal.

There is a time laps video of somebody doing one of the gensets, Only trying to save the engine? stuff is heavy, got an overhead hoist or forklift or something?
Just start from the back,, get everything stripped off, down to the bare generator housing, if generator section is bad just cut the wires coming out of it. take out the 6 big bolts from its bottom mounts, take off the 6 nuts and studs that hold it to the bell housing, wack it with a sledge on the bottom mounts, when it starts to separate slowly work the stator off the rotor. A sling from overhead slightly lifting the stator will help. Support engine oil pan with a steel bar spanning the frame rails, watch your fingers. when its off take out the 6 bolts holding the rotor to the flywheel. if you are careful you will not damage it. i tested a bunch of wiring and insulation from these units, put the samples in a blender and made 1 test for asbestos, so it is in there if you care.

Thanks Adam. I did watch the time lapse video, a little difficult to see what bolts were being taking out and in what order. I'm sure once I start I'll figure it out. In that video he left the generator part in place

Re: Removing an engine from a PE-95
you can figure it out, pretty simple, some of the top bolts you cant get to inside the unit, are hoping the nut comes off with the bolt not turning, If you are going to put it back together, dont think you can do it like that. Still got to get the generator section out if you are going to scrap it, here its worth twice much as an electric motor or copper bearing generator. I have never sold a generator section, nobody really wants to pay anything for it and its not worth the trouble. there are a few different generator models and differences between some of the serial numbers, so all not interchangable. I will have to look into the service manual, there should be a disassembly section.. I take them apart the way i do pretty much due to miller electric welder training back in the day, they had you remove the stator and rotor separately.
