1942 Hobart M5 - Gasoline Electric Generating Unit.

Here are some photos of a 'back burner' project that I will be slowly working on.

I cleaned the face of the panel with Mothers cleaner wax.

Because the engine only turns 1200 R.'s P.M., the Generator must have the ability to be tuned so it can develop enough electricity to keep the battery charged. This little lever is the adjuster.

More to come as progress is made.

Hello I just picked one up that seems frozen. Pulled head and cylinders look good. Thinking g might be stuck. Any idea how to separate the motor from the genset?

Any help would be appreciated

Sorry Lazboy no can do. I got rid of mine before I dumped a lot of work and money into a useless (to me) generator. These particular gen. sets. were intended for a specific purpose and that was to power the servo motors and distant electric control for the 40mm Bofors A.A. Gun. The gen. head is wired in such a way that the ground is always rotating. Without rewinding the gen. head, one is at a serious risk of electrocution if used for other purposes. Forget receiving just a shock, this thing WILL KILL YOU, DEAD.
