PE-95-(X) Value

Post by Ez8 » Thu Oct 03, 2019 6:20 pm

What is the value of these generator sets?
I'm looking at a buying a PE-95-something (letter not known yet, but owner says it's from 1944).
It turns over freely, appears to complete in terms of shrouding and working bits, but it not currently running and has been painted "civilian" colors on the outside. There's some kind of spark issue at the distributor which I'm assuming is something simple like the capacitor or points since it hasn't been run in awhile.

Just looking at value. Is there some kind of range?

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures.

The owner is asking $1,000, but is open to offers.

Depends, what engine is in it. Might have a RMC engine, or a CJ type engine or a MB or GPW engine. Or if early a ford truck engine.

How long has it sat, These things are great for getting stuck valves from sitting in certain situations. Do a compression test if possible, even your finger over a plug hole, you can feel the difference between 80 psi or 10 psi.

Buying it for the engine, and the engine is correct for a WWll jeep, and if it was here. local, and seemed to look like it runs with correct parts, I would, and have, on numerous occasions, pay a grand.

There are also 3 of these for sale here, within 400 miles, so supply is still good in the states.

So lots of if's.

Well, I bought it. It turns over freely and has compression so I'll fire it up and see what happens.
Pretty good condition, overall and seems complete.

Engine number is: MB-297010
It's got a Willys marked head on it.
And the serial number from Onan is 397
Hours meter reads 603.

I'm looking forward to getting this running as soon as I get my MB body back on...

Yep she's all set for the cold weather. I probably won't have time to really get into it until November, but for now she's snug away in the barn.
