Re: Colorado banning military vehicles?
Does this legislation prohibit operation of vehicles titled and registered in states outside Colorado?
My question is: Can I drive my MB or GPW within Colorado if I go to visit?
Who'd believe this could happen in COLORADO???

Re: Colorado banning military vehicles?
I'm certain this will die (with a fight) but have to only show two vehicles as examples of 'Identical' to military and made on the same assembly line:
M38A1 in their photos is the CJ-5 in different colors and addition of some lighting.
MB/GPW will be prohibited, but a CJ-2 would not be...
Take it in front of a local judge, (more the merrier) let them point out the safety 'differences' and make a ruling, then it starts going upward to each court until it gets the recognition as a stupid and illegal ruling.
But then it is Colorado, Pot's cool, Military isn't...dude!!
Good Luck, hope the disease isn't spreading to Virginia.

Look at the info posted here:

This gent was refused by the Colorado DMV because the vehicles were from WW2.

Crazy!
It seems that there is an action being taken against that law.

Re: Colorado banning military vehicles?
I used to own land in CO when I was still in the military 10 years ago. Then came rain water collection ban. Then high cap mag ban, then legalization of MJ along with many more liberal minded laws. 6 years ago I abandoned my plan to retire in CO and moved to TN. I saw a steady erosion of freedoms which were led by the Denver politicians who control the destiny of the rest of the state The MV restrictions are simply another extension of the same mindset that governs CA and NY. It is sad in that CO is one of our most beautiful states and these things are continually happening.
I hope that a few reasonable people can make these types of things go away, but it is hard to battle the behemoth that is Denver. Good luck my friends. You are courageous to fight for your rights.

NO, No, No, the bill in that link is from the 2019 session and is WHAT CAUSED the changes that allow the banning of historical military vehicles today.YLG80 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 3:33 amCrazy!

The useful thing may be to contact the same people who sponsored the bill and explain to them how the DMV is using the new law, and seek action to stop it.

Re: Colorado banning military vehicles?
You can drive out of State military vehicles in Colorado. The Interstate commerce clause prevents States from regulating DMV laws to out of State laws. For example, in NY state, you can drive a Florida vehicle in the state even though it is not inspected. A NYS vehicle needs to be inspected for emissions and safety issues. Florida has no inspection policy YET!

Yes but there is another bill in 2020 giving more freedom.Sledge303 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 7:00 pmNO, No, No, the bill in that link is from the 2019 session and is WHAT CAUSED the changes that allow the banning of historical military vehicles today.YLG80 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 3:33 amCrazy!

That is really bureaucracy and low level politics, like here.
Next year my 2011 car will no longer be authorized in Brussels due to emission regulations.
But my historical 1943 GPW jeep will still be allowed, thanks to our Belgian classic vehicles association.
Yves.

Re: Colorado banning military vehicles?
Florida had a vehicle inspection program in the mid 70's until early 80's. It was scrapped when they kept track of accidents and found no correlation between accidents and vehicles that were inspected or not inspected. Won't see that again and I have not seen it even being mentioned in the years since. Also high costs and long lines a big factor.

Re: Colorado banning military vehicles?
I'm also worried about the states that are banning any gas-powered vehicles in their states in the coming years, in anticipation of reliable and inexpensive electric cars that just don't exist now, nor does the infrastructure to make them feasible for daily driving.
You might assume there'd be exemptions for antiques that don't get driven that much, but in this PC-driven era, I wouldn't bet on that. If the governors of CA/OR/WA have their way, nobody will be allowed to own or drive a gas-burning vehicle around ten years from now.
Colorado seems to be following CA in so many scary ways, I could see them doing so with this.

I'd forgotten all about that, but now you mentioned it, I do remember as a kid seeing the inspection stickers in windshields on cars when I grew up in Florida.Steve Webb wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 7:25 pmFlorida had a vehicle inspection program in the mid 70's until early 80's. Yes the CA, NY mob move to all the nicer less regulated States then sets about to make them the same as where they came from. Just doesn't make sense.

Re: Colorado banning military vehicles?
I live in Europe so don't really feel I have a right to join in with local politics, but I would like to add a little to this thread.
I have recently been lucky enough to purchase a GPW from Seattle and have it shipped to the UK, but before I could ship it I had to apply for an Export License from your DOT at a cost of $650.... Plus I have bought a trailer as well and because it was designed to be towed by a military vehicle, guess what, another $650 for an Export License.
If central Government still treat WW2 vehicles/trailers as military not classic vehicles, then States like Colorado will always have support for these crazy rulings.
I hope you manage to get these rules reversed.

Yep, when the dems and libs move out of CA (etc), and into better states, eventually they change the laws to suit their liberal views. Colorado is, unfortunately, full of them. Fortunately, they will never move here, because all we have is corn and pigs. And no vehicle inspections, nor any restrictions on them. I get a lot of MVs from communist states, like IL, right across the river.
Those 80 year old military vehicles are threatening to them. So they ban them.

And that is why I sold my land in CO 8 years ago and moved to TN. Glad I did not retire there. Beautiful state, but you said it all.dpcd67 wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 2:56 pmYep, when the dems and libs move out of CA (etc), and into better states, eventually they change the laws to suit their liberal views.
