Wisconsin MV owners Legislative Alert

Discussion of Local, State, and Federal issues regarding MV Legislation, MV use restrictions, MV registration refusals, etc. As these issues may ultimately affect other jurisdictions, information and education of all MV owners is crucial for the future ownership and use of our MVs.
This is not a board for Political discussion.
This is not a Q&A Forum on how to title or register a MV.

Wisconsin MV owners Legislative Alert

Post by Cat Man » Wed Feb 01, 2012 10:21 am

To all Wisconsin Historic Military Vehicle Owners,

LEGISLATIVE ALERT

Your Help Is Needed Again!

Since the creation of the Wisconsin Historic Military Vehicle law in 2010, we have worked on your behalf to improve the law in your favor. We have campaigned the state legislature and the state Dept of Transportation (DOT) over the past year to create an amendment to the current Historic Military Vehicle Statute. The amendment bill will add several improvements and make operating former military vehicles is Wisconsin as historic vehicles easier for all of us. But we need your help.

TWO IMPORTANT CHANGES
TO THE 2010 WISCONSIN HISTORIC MILITARY VEHICLE LAW
ARE NOW BEING INTRODUCED IN THE STATE LEGISLATURE

1) The new bill allows you more operation with less restrictions. It adds approval to operate a Historic Military Vehicle for “Occasional Personal Use,” but not for regular daily transportation, and adds additional specific language that allows the vehicles to also be used for “club activities, exhibitions, and tours”.

2) The new bill adds language to allow Non Operational Parts Vehicles to be kept on your property if you have an HMV licensed vehicle.

These activities were not part of the original bill that became Wisconsin law in 2010. Help amend the 2010 Wisconsin HMV law by writing, calling and emailing your state legislators in both the state Assembly and Senate today.

Ask them to co-sponsor and support the changes to the Historic Military Vehicle Bill proposal LRB−3349/P1

For all owners who choose HMV plates, this is a good step. Other owners should also be aware that there are simultaneous efforts underway towards normal registration options for former military vehicles too. We believe that any vehicle that meets equipment requirements should have full registration options (including HMV). See separate thread in this forum.

I support Jeff's efforts for the HMV plate and wish him success there.
