Hi friends,
I’m hoping to restore my Willy’s 1964 M38a1. I believe it to be a USMC Jeep. I’m hoping to have some questions answered and I am in the market to get parts for this jeep. It was converted to a 12 V system so many of those parts are missing and needed. Need generator, starter, and lots more. Let me know if anyone can help.
I am committed to put this jeep together nicely. I will need canvas for the seats and the top as well.
Did the Marine Corps jeeps have different front shackles than the Army Jeep’s?
Also there are two extra gauges to the right of the normal gauge assembly, I believe one of those two gauges was an hour meter and it’s missing. I don’t know what the other gauge was. I will need those gauges as well. I need all the help I can get!
Thank you for your time,
Raj.

The front shackles have a larger round loop to them and the rears are round also. The rear uses an overlay bumper that reinforced the rear cross member and the shackles are pivoted at the outside corners.
The extra gauges could be signs of it being a radio jeep. Along the frame on the passenger side it may still have the large power supply cables. The tops of the rear wheel wells with hove a bunch of holes to mount the radios. The front crank pulley should be a 3 shive and the generator should be a 100 amp if it's a radio jeep.

Thank you for posting this reply. The information you provided has been very helpful. It’s hard to get good information on the Marine Corps jeeps. Is there some type of book or special magazine I should get to learn more about them??

Hi Sixgun, the manuals you might be interested in are the TM9-815-1 and the TM9-815-2.
If it can be useful, there is a spare parts dealer in Germany, if you are interested I'll give you his name, in addition to the manuals, he also sells the spare parts catalogue.
Kind regards Joseph
