M38 Pintle
I have what I believe is an M38 pintle for sale. Seems to be in great condition. It was on my ‘42 GPW when I got it and I swapped it for a WWII one. I’m thinking $75+ shipping on it. Let me know if I’m off base.

Re: M38 Pintle
From what I understand (could be mistaken), it's not truly M38 with the cotter pin locking hole. Is the small hole for the rivet to the captive chain for the cotter pin painted over? Any numbers showing in the casting?
Maybe M38A1 or M151instead.
Although I have one just like it on my M38. I say it could've been replaced in service with the cotter-pin style for all I know. Good enough in my book.
Nice piece. Fair price. Good luck with the sale. Shouldn't last long.

Thank you for chiming in! Hopefully we don’t get in trouble for discussing this an ad, but I’m thankful for any info you shed so the buyer knows what they’re getting. The only castings I see is what appears to be 1524314?

Re: M38 Pintle
Sorry Shooter, I can't tell anything from that lone number. It might be just for that piece of the pintle and not the whole assembly. Are there any other numbers? Maybe cast around the base where the bolts go to the chassis?
I checked both the M38 (1955) and M38A1 (1956) parts manuals, and both show the same part number for the pintle hitch (and clear illustrations in both manuals have no cotter pin) and both are the G503 part number (the same pintle hitch as used on the MB/GPW).
I don't have a M151 manual so couldn't check there. I suppose (guessing) that it could also be a CJ pintle hitch.
Sorry, not much help.
I don't think anybody will mind the discussion. Heck, you might have some rare bird there worth lots more money!

Re: M38 Pintle
The other thing I like about them is that the hinge pins have grease zerk fittings.
Many have just the plain non-greasable pins. Gotta use the oil can on those.

Re: M38 Pintle
Here is what I think (I know, no one cares).
It is later than M38.
I have plug welded up the safety pin holes and used them on M38s.
It is worth 75.

It's later than M38 but I prefer the cotter pin for extra safety. I have these later versions on both my M38s.
