SURPLUS CITY JEEP OUT OF BUSINESS?

Post by dpcd67 » Mon Apr 05, 2021 12:32 pm

Is Surplus City Jeep parts out of business? In Oroville Ca? I used to get NOS parts for M38A1 from them. Tried to contact them; negative reply. Anyone out there know?

Nothing definitive. But I saw references to selling off all the yard stuff last year.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think the owner died a couple of years ago.

I had a guy from the Oroville area that bought some parts from me at my place two weeks ago. He spoke as though he was just at SC and intimated that they were still a going concern. They usually go to the Plymouth show which is in a few weeks. Be interesting to see if they are there.

Interesting. If they are still a going concern, they stopped answering phones and their web site says "Permanently Closed".
Maybe they are on break.
If anyone gets any news, please let me know. Or if they sell off their inventory en mass.
Or who bought the place or inventory.

That's odd as I was on their website last week, and I just went there now and it works fine for me. All the links seem to work, and I don't see it mentioning permanently closed anywhere on their website.

I know a lot of businesses around here that Google says they are permanently closed, but they are in fact open. I always tell the business they may want to look into that. I think some of it may be COVID related as some businesses did shut down briefly around here.

Yes the web site works; but try to send them a message or place an order. Or call. And there is a red banner on the side panel that says, Permanently Closed; that is not on their web site.
Just called them again; phone rings......forever.

I just called them and got an answer. The retail surplus is open. Jeep parts closed for good.

Well, there you go. That's a shame. Been around a long time. Sad.

Ohhh, that's too bad... I grew up in Glendale Calif. and Surplus City was on Sheldon St. in Sun Valley originally. We would go in there from time to time to look at all of the "green stuff", I think I was around 16 or 17. I didn't know what I was missing back then. I was able to see them just before they rolled up and headed north to Oroville. The owner told me that the City of Los Angeles was cracking down on businesses that had "leaky junk" in their yards. Ironic thing was that, that area of Sun Valley was and still is heavy industrial/auto recycling yards.
Wowee, an end of an era has come to pass. God Bless Surplus City and long may their memory live!!

Now I want to know who bought the inventory that was left. And they had a sewing shop that made tops; good ones (not as good as Weebee, but good); who got all that equipment?
